Surfaces are washed down, loose and flaking paint is scraped and sanded back, cracks in render are filled, bare timber is primed and rusted metal is treated before any topcoat goes on. Two coats of an exterior-rated acrylic from Dulux, Taubmans or Wattyl finish the job.
How long does exterior paint last in Adelaide?
A properly prepared exterior repaint with a quality acrylic lasts around 10 years on render and brick and 7 to 10 years on timber, depending on the sun exposure of each wall. When is the best time of year to paint outside in Adelaide?

Prep
The part you are paying for. Furniture covered, floors sheeted, edges masked. Walls washed, filled, sanded and dusted. Outside, everything is scraped back to a sound edge.

Prime and cut in
Bare patches and repairs are primed so the topcoat sits evenly. Every edge, corner and ceiling line is cut in by brush before a roller touches the wall.

Two coats
Rolled on with a wet edge so there are no lap marks, left to dry properly, then a second full coat. Two coats is the standard, not an extra.

Walkthrough
You walk the job with Damien in daylight. Anything you spot is touched up on the spot. Tape comes off, sheets come up, and the site is left clean.
Exterior painting questions
Do you pressure wash before painting?
Yes. Every exterior is washed down to remove dirt, chalking and mould before preparation starts, because paint only bonds to a clean surface.
Can you paint over old flaking paint?
No, and neither should anyone else. Flaking paint is scraped and sanded back to a sound edge, bare patches are primed, and only then is the topcoat applied. Painting over flaking paint fails within a season.
Do you paint roofs or gutters?
Gutters, downpipes and fascias are included in exterior painting. Ask about roof coating when you request a quote and Damien will advise whether it suits your roof.
